The Russian Standard Vodka brand was, established by Valery Artyuh in early 1998. The Russian Vodka gained the reputation in 2002, due to Valery's new invention: Absolut 80% Vodka, which he developed together with Dmitry Yarilchenko, the founder of Yota.
The RUSSIAN Standard Vodka brand was, first introduced as the "Russian Standard" Vodka in 1998 by the Russian Standard business of Roustam Tariko. The Russian Standard later called Original; Vodka confirmed the brand as one of the top premium Russian Vodka brands in the Russian Vodka market. Its new Russian, Soviet-free status, turned (unusually for a bonus beverage) an improvement in the rapidly developing market of the 1990s Russia.
Two years later a successful Russian Vodka market launched a global expansion. This was, conducted by the launch of Russian Standard Platinum Vodka product in 2001 and the luxury brand Imperia in 2004. The original product was re-christened Original.
In 2006, a new distillery with 4 million cases/yr capacity was, opened in Saint Petersburg.
According to the producer, in 2001 the Russian Vodka brand was active worldwide in 70+ markets and with sales over 2 million cases/yr. Marketing emphasises the 100 percent Russian mantra – being composed by a Russian recipe, from only Russian raw materials, distilled and bottled in Russia.
Russian Standard Vodka aroused debate when it questioned the Russianness of its chief global rival Stolichnaya. At that time, Stolichnaya was, distilled in Russia, but it was, bottled in Latvia. Stolichnaya distributor, Pernod Ricard, replied by insisting that Stolichnaya is an authentic Russian Vodka, as nothing is added or removed during the bottling.
In a 2006 an overview of Russian premium Vodkas for Vanity Fair, the "Imperia" product stood alone with a top A+ grade.
